The St. Petersburg chess set was created to commemorate the elite St. Petersburg Tournament of 18955 and is one of the most celebrated turn-of-the-century designs.
Each piece has been handcrafted, weighted and polished by master craftsmen, making the design, quality and craftsmanship unmatched by any set in its price range.
The pieces, made of Anjan & Boxwood, are designed to withstand the rigours of practical play and maintain its elegance for years to come. Anjan is a heartwood with a dark reddish brown to nearly black. The base of each piece is fitted with green felt and extra Queens are included in this set.
Size of the king: 100mm (height); 40mm (base).
Size of the pawn: 50mm (height); 29mm (base)
For a storage solution, consider the Kiaat wooden box, hand crafted in South Africa and exclusively available from House of Chess. Each box is divided into two compartments to separate the light and dark coloured pieces. Medium size: 23.5 x 15.5 x 9cm.
When choosing chess pieces for a wooden chess board, it's important to ensure that the size of the chess pieces matches the size of the squares on the chess board. Large-sized St. Petersburg pieces should fit on a large-sized wooden board.  However, it is essential to check the specifications of both the chess pieces and the board to ensure they are compatible
